Tanzanian president lays foundation stone for ADFD-funded highway

July 7, 2011 (WAM) - Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and UAE Ambassador to Tanzania Mallalla Mubarak Al Ameri laid the foundation stone for the 130-km Kidahwe - Uvinza highway in the Kigoma Region. President Kikwete said his country was grateful to the UAE represented by the ADFD for the development aid it extended to Tanzanian. The road is financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) at US$75 million.
The UAE Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Mallalla Mubarak, said upgrading of the Kidahwe - Uvinza road would help to boost the economy of Kigoma Region. Besides being used for commuting between important cities within Tanzania, the highway links it with neighbouring countries such as Burundi, Rwanda and Congo, bolstering the scope for business and commercial activities. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
