UAE uses soft power successfully: Sheikh Khaled
Cambridge -July 10, 2011 (WAM) - Sheikh Khaled bin Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan has credited UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for crystallising a balanced foreign policy based on tolerance, moderation and openness to the other.
In a lecture at the University of Cambridge, Sheikh Khaled, a graduate of the American University of Sharjah and holder of masters in political science from King's College London, said Sheikh Khalifa's approach is complementing the foundation stage of the internal and external policy as laid down by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
''The UAE is adhering to its principles and values that cope with changes and this is clearly evident in the foreign policy under Sheikh Khalifa which seeks to cultivate good relations based on mutual interests,'' he told a gathering of professors, researchers, academics and students.
Sheikh Khaled also dwelt on the UAE's soft power in foreign policy saying the UAE had successfully used this power to win the bid for hosting the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE, he asserted, would pursue its balanced foreign policy confidently and firmly towards serving objectives of international solidarity, cooperation, security, stability and peace. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
