OCA President Sheikh Ahmad arrives in Tokyo

(With Photo) TOKYO, July 12 (KUNA) -- Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah arrived here Tuesday for a five-day visit for a series of conferences and meetings, including the OCA Executive Board meeting and the General Assembly. In the General Assembly due Thursday, Sheikh Ahmad is expected to be re-elected as president for a new sixth term. Sheikh Ahmad was received by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi, Third Secretary Faraj Al-Hajeri and Japan Olympic Committee President Tsunekazu Takeda at the airport.
The Kuwait-based council was founded in 1982. Sheikh Ahmad has been OCA President and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1992.
Comprising 45 National Olympic Committees in the Asian continent, the OCA is one of five continental associations un der the umbrella of the IOC and controls all the sports in Asia. The council organizes six major events for the member states -- Asian Games, Asian Winter Games, Asian Indoor Games, Asian Beach Games, Asian Martial Arts Games, and Asian Youth Games. It also provides financial and technical support for the Asian countries which are locked in trouble and problems that impede their sports programs and activities.
