Du launches its OTN's phase1
Abu Dhabi, July 25, 2011 (WAM) - The UAE's second telco Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, or Du, has launched the first phase of its Optical Transport Network (OTN) project in the country. Optical Transport Network is a backhauling optical technology and augments Du's recently launched fibre backbone network.
The US$65 million project is established on a national scale extending from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and the Northern Emirates to reach Du's submarine cable landing station in Fujairah. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2012 and is to include the other emirates of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Qaiwain, according to du in an emailed press release. The new project is to enhance Du's network performance by providing speeds of over 3.2TB per second, which can be upgraded to 8TB per second. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
