160 tonnes of dates shipped to friendly countries
Abu Dhabi, July 25, 2011 (WAM) - The Khalifa bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation (KZHF) has launched the dates distribution project to sisterly and friendly countries before the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The foundation has shipped almost 160 tonnes of dates to 11 countries to be distributed to the beneficiaries during Ramadan in collaboration with the UAE embassies in those countries.
The countries are Egypt (15 tonnes), Lebanon (10 tonnes), Pakistan (20 tonnes), Bangladesh (15 tonnes), in addition to 40 tonnes to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, 10 tonnes to Uzbekistan, 13 tonnes to Switzerland, 15 tonnes to Belgium, three tonnes to Portugal and 15 tonnes to Germany.
The move is in line with the objectives of the foundation to meet some requirements of the needy and the expatriate Arab and Muslim communities in those countries.
The Foundation has expanded its charitable activities to cover about 45 countries around the world during the holy month of Ramadan, where about 500,000 people around the world will be given readymade food parcels.
These countries include 13 sisterly Arab countries — Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, Sudan, Algeria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Comoros and Mauritania.
The project will also be implemented in 21 countries across the Asian and African continents that included Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Turkey, Senegal, Thailand and Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and South Africa, Tanzania, Seychelles, China, Kenya and Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Indonesia, Nigeria, Philippines, Vietnam and Ethiopia.
In Europe, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Switzerland and Portugal in addition to Argentina and Australia will be benefitted.
The Foundation by supporting such projects aimed at strengthening bonds with community members, assists needy families, alleviates the suffering of poor families and spreads happiness and joy during the Holy month of Ramadan.
