Abu Dhabi, July 25, 2011 (WAM) - A number of humanitarian organisations in the UAE held here at the Red Crescent Authority head office yesterday a joint meeting to coordinate relief operations to help the victims of drought and famine in the Horn African country of Somalia. The move follows the directives by the UAE leadership to address looming famine in the Horn of Africa region.
Attended by the RCA, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation, the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment and the UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid (OCFA), the meeting tackled ways to speed up the relief programmes to meet the current situation on the ground.
They agreed to enhance cooperation and coordination mechanisms to provide the best humanitarian services to those affected in Somalia, especially through provision of food, medical supplies and drinkable water to alleviate the acute humanitarian suffering there.
