Sopore youth's death: One more cop arrested
Srinagar, Aug 10 (PTI) The Special Investigation Team,
probing the death of a youth in police custody in Sopore town
in north Indian state Jammu and Kashmir, Wednesday arrested
another policeman in connection with the case.
Head Constable Janak Singh was arrested by the SIT in
connection with the death of 28-year-old Nazim Rashid alias
Anjum in police custody on July 31, police said.
Nazim, a resident of Krankshiven locality in Sopore
town in Baramulla district, died in the custody of the Special
Operations Group (SOG) of the state police after he was picked
up for questioning in connection with a case.
On August six, two policemen were arrested for their
alleged involvement in the custodial death of the youth.
The arrested policemen, both constables, along with a
Sub-Inspector were suspended soon after the youth's death.
This was the first custodial death in Kashmir since
2009.
A youth, Manzoor Ahmad from Aloochibagh area in the
city, had died in SOG custody in May 2009.
