FNC Elections: Two women from Ras Al Khaimah submits nomination papers
Abu Dhabi, Aug 17, 2011 (WAM) - As the registration entered its third day today, a total of 16 candidates, including two women, filed their nomination papers in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah to contest elections to the UAE's Federal National Council. The total number of prospective candidates in the emirate has reached 41 and is expected to rise.
Every individual from among the 129,000 voters who have been chosen by the government is eligible to file nomination papers abiding by the set rules. Half of the total 40 seats are open to the country's second elections slated for 24th September.
The National Election Commission (NEC) will announce the preliminary list of candidates on August 20 giving the candidates the time to appeal, while the final list of candidates will be announced on August 28 and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is September 21. The last day for filing nominations is today, when a visible increase in the number of candidates is forecast.- Emirates News Agency, WAM
