Mohammed bin Rashid unveils Dubai Metro's Green Line
Dubai, Sept 11, 2011 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has officially inaugurated Dubai Metro's Green Line, the second and final phase of the city's rail network.
In its landmark opening, 16 out of 18 stations of the 23 kilometre long metro were opened.
Sheikh Mohammed unveiled a plaque commemorating certificate issued by the Guinness Book of World Records confirming the 52 kilometre long Dubai Metro Red Line as the world's longest fully Automated Rail System. He also watched a documentary about progress of Dubai city infrastructure into one of the world's best.
Before boarding the Metro at Dubai Healthcare City Station, Sheikh Mohammed unveiled a memorial plaque carrying his words '' Thanks God we have turned the dream into a tangible reality and august achievements''.
Accompanied by Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, other sheikhs, ministers and senior officials, Sheikh Mohammed took the first metro ride on the new line from Dubai Healthcare City Station, passing through 16 stations to the line's end, the Etisalat Station in Qusias.
Al Fahidi Station, Sheikh Mohammed heard a presentation by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), on the Green Line project and its stations. He said Al Fahhidi Station will serve 150,000 passengers.
During his nearly two hours ride, Sheikh Mohammed also inspected other facilities serving the metro.
Speaking with media personalities accompanying him, Sheikh Mohammed said'' The Metro is a fruit of diligent efforts, determination and vision which he envisaged to make Dubai the number one city regionally and internationally in terms of integrated infrastructure projects for being the financial, trade and tourism hub in the Middle East''. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
