‘Israeli embassy seizure a milestone in Islam’s history’

TEHRAN, Sept. 12 (MNA) – Former Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati said that the seizure of the Israeli embassy in Cairo on Friday marked a turning point in the contemporary history of Islam and the world.

Egyptian protesters destroyed a wall around the Israeli embassy and broke into the building on September 9 after thousands demonstrated at Tahrir Square and called for a timetable to be set for reforms and an end to military trials for civilians.

Velayati, who is currently a senior advisor of the Supreme Leader, said, “This great incident… indicates that the uprisings taking place in Muslim countries are Islamic in nature.”

“It seems that great regional developments are on the way,” the veteran politician stated.

And hopefully, Muslims will be able to revive the glory of ancient Islam through the wave of Islamic awakening rolling across the region, Velayati noted.

He also stated that the wave of Islamic awakening roiling the region over the past eight months has foiled the intrigues devised by the Zionist regime and its Western allies over the past 40 years.
