Amar Singh's condition stable
New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) The condition of Rajya Sabha
(upper house of Indian parliament) MP Amar Singh, who was
admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)
Monday night for treatment of urinary tract infection,
remained stable Tuesday, according to doctors.
Arrested for his alleged role in the 2008 cash-for-vote
scam, Singh, 55, was admitted in the private ward of All India
Institute of Medical Sciences and is undergoing tests.
"He was brought to AIIMS casualty after being referred by
medical board of doctors from LNJP hospital and G B Pant
hospital. He was admitted here at 9.12 PM and investigations
are ongoing," Dr Y K Gupta, spokesperson AIIMS, said.
Dr Sanjay Gupta, additional professor, department of
Nephrology who is looking into the MP's case said, "He is
admitted here for treatment of infection in the urinary tract.
"After investigations we found that he also has fever and
diarrhoea along with it. Escherichia coli, a type of bacteria
has been found to be the cause of UTI."
He said that patients of renal transplant are on special
immuno suppressant medications and are prone to infection.
"He developed infection and because of UTI the transplant
per say has shown deterioration. His creatinine level (an
indicator of kidney function), has been fluctuating. His
infection needs to be taken care of," he said.
Singh has also undergone various tests related to blood,
ultrasound and X-ray Tuesday.
Dr Sanjay Gupta said, "These are part of investigations.
Since he has lot of anxiety, pyschiatrist will also evaluate
him tomorrow.
"Consultants from department of gastroenterology and
endocrinology too are looking into his case as he also suffers
from hypertension and diabetes. In the past he had intestinal
surgery too. So all ailments need attention," Gupta said.
Singh was shifted to AIIMS after a panel of doctors at
Tihar Jail found his creatinine level high.
The former Samajwadi Party General Secretary has been in
Tihar Jail under judicial custody since his arrest on
September 6 in connection with the cash-for-vote scam.
