No policy lapses in governance: Chidambaram
New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Indian Home Minister P
Chidambaram Thursday said that there was no governance deficit
and significant decisions were being taken by the government.
"There is no policy lapses. There is an attempt to
paralyse government, an attempt to show as if the government
is not looking forward. That is not correct. Decisions have
been taken at each cabinet meeting. If you look, you will find
that we have taken significant decisions," he told reporters.
The Home Minister expressed happiness over return of
Congress President Sonia Gandhi from abroad after receiving
treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
"We are very happy. I am delighted that within days after
returning to India she has presided over the meeting of Uttar
Pradesh Election Committee," he said.
Chidambaram was talking to reporters after conferring the
Lakshmipat Singhania-IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards
here.
The awards, which comprise a trophy and a citation, were
given to leaders who have performed outstandingly in the
fields of business, science & technology and community service
and social uplift.
Leading private sector bank HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh
and Managing Director of Bajaj Auto Rajiv Bajaj received
awards as leader and young leader respectively in the business
category.
Dr Roddam Narasimha, Chairman, Engineering Mechanics
Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research
was conferred Leader Award and the young leader Award was
given to Dr Amitabh Joshi, Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre
for Advanced Scientific Research in Science and Technology.
The Home Minister honoured Dr Uma Tuli, Founder Managing
Secretary, Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust and Dr Akhil Paul,
Director, SENSE International and Vice President, Deaf & Blind
international as leader and young leader respectively for
their roles in community service and social uplift.
While felicitating them, Chidambaram said, "One must have
the courage for conviction. The courage to leave the scene for
a successor. All the great leaders had a courage for
conviction.
"Each one of them honoured today had a courage and found
an opportunity to take decision, and seize that opportunity
and deliver idea for business, or follow the service to pursue
excellence and finally leave behind something which next
generation will cherish," the Home Minister said.
Chidambaram also released a commemorative book depicting
life, leadership and legacy of known businessman late Lala
Lakshmipat Singhania.
Hari Shankar Singhania, President, JK Organisation, said,
"The National Leadership Awards, meant to encourage and
recognise leadership qualities of the eminent Indian
individuals, were instituted as a tribute to the astounding
leadership quality of Lala Lakshmipat Singhania."
