Speed restriction on trains lifted

New Delhi, Sept 19 (PTI) The speed restriction on
movement of passenger trains in North Bengal and Bihar, which
was put in place after Sunday's strong quake in Sikkim, has
been lifted this afternoon except on a few bridges.
"The speed restrictions have been withdrawn except on
three bridges," said a spokesperson of the North East Frontier
Railway, adding, trains are now running normally.
One of the bridges in Katihar division on which the speed
restriction is still in force, has developed some minor craks
on the pillars and repair works are currently underway.
Railways had imposed a speed restriction of 30-40 km per
hour on movement of passenger trains after the quake as a
precautionary measure.
Reports suggest that train movement had come to a halt
for a few moments immediately after the 6.8 magnitude quake
rattled several areas in the eastern part of the country on
Sunday evening.
The death toll has crossed 60 including 39 in Sikkim
alone.
