2,800 tonnes of foodgrain to quake-hit Sikkim

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) The Indian government on Thursday
made a special allocation of 2,800 tonnes of foodgrains at a
cheaper rate for earthquake-hit northeastern state Sikkim.
The government has made special allocation of 2,800
tonnes foodgrains to Sikkim at BPL (below poverty line)
prices, an official statement said, adding that wheat has been
allocated at Rs 4.15 per kg and rice Rs 5.65 per kg.
On September 18, a powerful earthquake with a 6.8
magnitude had jolted Sikkim and several areas of northeast and
neighbouring Nepal.
The quake has killed over 100 people and displaced
several thousands. Hundreds of people are believed to be still
stranded in the worst-affected north districts of the state.
The additional supplies of foodgrains would be airlifted
to Northern parts of Sikkim, the statement said.
