Chidambaram visits SC, reviews security preparedness

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) Indian Home Minister P
Chidambaram on Thursday visited Supreme Court to review the
security preparedness at the complex against the backdrop of
the recent terror attack outside the Delhi High Court.
Chidambaram was accompanied by Delhi Police Commissioner
B K Gupta and other senior police officials.
Delhi Police has already floated a tender for hiring of
CCTVs to cover the perimeter of Supreme Court after the blast
which claimed 15 lives and injured over 70.
At least 44 CCTVs are being installed at the Supreme
Court.
"The CCTVs will cover the entire perimeter and will
capture the image of those approaching court premises. The
recording will be non-stop," a senior police official said.
The decision to cover the perimeter came after it was
found that there was no CCTV coverage outside the High Court,
which witnessed two blasts in past four months.
Besides CCTVs, the official said, more police personnel
are being deployed at courts to thwart any untoward incident.
Security has already been tightened at the Supreme Court,
less than a kilometer away from the Delhi High Court.
Additional security personnel have been deployed at every
gate and metal detectors have been put in place.
The security personnel at every gate could be seen
frisking thoroughly the entrants and their belongings with
hand-held devices.
Police personnel could be seen moving in and around the
court complex in groups.
A three-layered security net has been put in place with
lawyers and litigants being subjected to frisking first at the
main gates, followed by the inner gates and thereafter,
outside the courtrooms.
