Team Abu Dhabi's Al Qamzi and Al Hameli head to China for Liuzhou showdown

Liuzhou (China) - Sept 28, 2011 (WAM) - Team Abu Dhabi's Thani Al-Qamzi and Ahmed Al-Hameli head to the People's Republic of China this week to take part in the crucial 2011 UIM F1 H20 Grand Prix of China on the Liu River in Liuzhou on Sunday.
With third-placed Al-Qamzi trailing UIM F1 H20 World Championship leader Jay Price by 32 points and Al-Hameli on a roll after steamrollering his way to outright victory at the last race in Ukraine, the race is vital for Team Abu Dhabi to maintain its resurgent title challenge. Both drivers have suffered their fair share of misfortune this season but have shown that they have the pace to be amongst the podium finishers when boat reliability runs in their favour.
Al-Hameli was the fastest driver over the entire Kiev race weekend and added the start-to-finish Grand Prix victory to his domination of the Pole Position qualifying and his success at the President's Cup that followed on from the main race. That victory in the Ukraine kick-started Al-Hameli's season, which had thus far been marred by mechanical problems and a one-race suspension. He now holds seventh in the points' standing and will be hoping to add to his tally in China on Sunday.
Team Abu Dhabi has full support from the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which runs under the chairmanship of H.H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al-Nahyan and the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. Team Abu Dhabi's race weekend gets underway with scrutineering and team registration on Friday, September 30th, before the first of the free practice sessions for Al-Hameli and Al-Qamzi take place on Saturday, October 1st.
The crucial three-stage F1 qualification heats begin at 15.00hrs (11.00hrs UAE time) to determine the starting order for Sunday's Grand Prix. Further practice is permitted on Sunday morning and the all-important 2011 Grand Prix of China fires into life at 16.00hrs (12.00hrs UAE time) on Sunday afternoon. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
