Indian revenue intelligence officers visit Dubai Customs
Dubai, Oct 3 (PTI) An Indian delegation headed by Revenue
Intelligence Director General R S Sidhu visited Dubai Customs
headquarters at Port Rashid here recently, it has been
announced.
On the occasion, the two sides looked into methods of
strengthening cooperation between Dubai Customs and
customs-related government departments in India, as well as
ways of developing trade relations that bring the two sides
together.
The meeting was part of a series of meetings the Dubai
Customs holds in line with the ERTIBAT program that was
launched at the beginning of the current year to reinforce
communication with foreign business councils and trade
attachés affiliated to diplomatic missions in Dubai.
Ahmed Butti Ahmed, the Executive Chairman of Ports,
Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Dubai Customs Director
General, received the delegation.
Ahmed Butti stressed on the solid relations the UAE has
with India at various levels.
"India is considered the top trade partner to the UAE.
Mutual trade exchanges recorded a jump of 50 per cent during
January-May, 2011, valued at 87.2 billion dirhams, as opposed
to 58.2 billion dirhams in the same period of 2010.
"Imports had the biggest share with a value of 41.3
billion dirhams, whereas exports valued at over 16 billion
dirhams and re-exports 29.8 billion dirhams," Dubai Customs
said in a statement on Sunday.
Sidhu commended the efforts made by Dubai Customs to
protect the economy and the community from prohibited and
counterfeit goods and facilitate legitimate trade movement.
The Indian delegation paid a short visit to the Jebel Ali
customs centre, where they were received by a number of Dubai
customs personnel.
The delegation learned about the implemented procedures
at the centre and took a field tour.
Dubai customs personnel briefed the delegation on the
systems and machines used at the department and how they
process customs operations and save clients effort and time.
"Dubai Customs is keen on making efforts in the field of
safeguarding the community and economy from the illegal and
false goods and at the same time gives much interest in
exchanging expertise with numerous government departments and
customs organisations around the world in line with its
strategic plan and mission toward strengthening legitimate
