HEALTH MINISTRY TO SET UP NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO TACKLE GAMBLING ADDICTION

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- A national committee will be set up to help
those at risk of gambling addiction, said Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai.

He said such a committee was needed because gambling addiction is a
mental-health problem.

"We are particularly concerned about the hardcore gamblers, who will even
borrow to gamble when they have no money," he told reporters after chairing the
Mental Health Promotion Advisory Council meeting here on Wednesday.

Liow said the committee, which would be led by Malaysian Mental Health
Association president Dr Ang Kin Teng, would develop special programmes to help
addicted gamblers, including those involved with online gambling.
