POSTHUMOUS 'BINTANG GAGAH PERKASA' AWARD FOR SLAIN BERNAMATV CAMERAMAN
MELAKA (Bernama) - Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, the BernamaTV cameraman who was killed in the line of duty in Somalia last month, was given a posthumous award in conjunction with the 73rd birthday of southern state of Melaka Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob on Saturday.
State Secretary Omar Kaseh said Noramfaizul was the sole recipient of the Bintang Gagah Perkasa (BGP) award this year.
"The award, which was first introduced in 1978 for army and military personnel, is given to Noramfaizul to show our appreciation for the contributions made by the man hailed as a national hero," he said.
On Sept 2, Noramfaizul, 39, was killed in a shooting in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, while covering a humanitarian mission with Putera 1Malaysia Club.
Meanwhile, three journalists including the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Zulkefli Salleh, have been awarded the "Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM)" which carries the title "Datuk".
