RCA discusses humanitarian partnerships with international organisations in Geneva
Abu Dhabi, Oct 9, 2011 (WAM) - The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) discussed separately with both World Food Programme (WFP) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) the humanitarian partnership to alleviate humanitarian suffering worldwide.
They agreed on activating cooperation and coordination mechanisms to provide better relief services and urgent needs to the crisis and marginalised zones in fields of health and nutrition, as well as, ways to enhance response to the natural calamities and crisis in general through benefiting from merits of each side.
As part of the deal, the humanitarian bodies agreed to exchange expertise and information to serve joint objectives in order to better dire living conditions in the crisis zones.
Ahmed Humaid Al Mazrouei, Board Chairman of the RCA met in Geneva Lauren Landis, Director of WFP. They discussed the framework of cooperation and future partnership to address the repercussions of famine and soaring food prices in the Horn of Africa.
Landis hailed the role being shouldered by the UAE in the international humanitarian arena, citing its continuous efforts to curb humanitarian suffering in the conflict and crisis zones.
Al Mzarouei also met David Gerling, regional chairman of partnerships in UNICEF. They discussed the existing partnership in a number of regions, especially in Pakistan, where children suffer shortage in services. The two sides agreed to adopt joint initiatives to alleviate exacerbating child suffering. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
