PILGRIMS FUND EXPANDS MOBILE FINANCIAL COUNTER SERVICE

From Abdul Aziz Harun

MECCA, Oct 10 (Bernama) - In an effort to improve services for pilgrims in the holy land, Tabung Haji (Malaysian hajj Pilgrims Fund) has added eight financial counters in Mecca and two in Medina.

Tabung Haji financial operations manager here, Mustakim Mohammad said with the expansion, Tabung Haji financial counters can now be found at 23 locations in Mecca and four locations in Medina.

He said previously, the mobile teams operated only in selected hospitals for the convenience of pilgrims receiving treatment but has since been expanded to include hostels.

"Services provided at these counters include storage, production and collection of payment for sacrifices and fines," he told Tabung Haji media here on Monday.

This haj season, 45 financial officers are on duty of which 36 are located in Mecca and nine in Medina.

Mustakim said transactions are only in Saudi Riyal and pilgrims can only make payment for sacrifices and fines using cash or debit via their accounts.

Pilgrims can withdraw maximum RM10,000 cash from their accounts in one transaction and are not encouraged to withdraw cash in large amounts.

Counter staff are also reminded to advise pilgrims who withdraw over RM1,000 from their accounts to spend wisely. (US$1=RM3.2)
