SARAWAK CM TO VISIT MIDDLE EAST IN EARLY 2012 TO PURSUE BIZ OPPORTUNITIES

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Oct 11 (Bernama) -- East Malaysia state of Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud will visit the Middle East early next year to follow-up on business opportunities arising from last month’s launch of the investment report, "Inside Sarawak 2011".

Asia Director of Inside Investor, Imran Saddique said on Tuesday the forthcoming trip was also a follow-up to Taib's visit to Abu Dhabi in January this year, as part of a more than 100-strong Malaysian delegation, led by Prime Minister Najib Razak for the Invest Malaysia Forum 2011.

"During that trip, several general construction companies expressed an interest in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), particularly the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub and heavy industries.

"Taib is hoping to renew these links and forge fresh ties upon his return to the Middle East next year," Imran said in a statement here.

He also said the chief minister would be hosting a group of investors from the Middle East in Kuching in the spring of 2012.

"There is significant interest from the Middle East with investors very keen to come explore the opportunities available in Sarawak.

"The "Inside Sarawak 2011" investment report launched by Taib on Sept 27, had offered a window for Middle East investors, looking to explore the investment environment in Sarawak.

"The Chief Minister recognises the importance of large scale investments from the Gulf Area and has agreed to receive the group," he added.

He said the "Inside Sarawak 2011" report features in-depth overviews and analysis of the state's investment opportunities as well as interviews with leading personalities from the state government and corporate world.

Inside Investor is the publisher of the "Inside Sarawak 2011" investment report.
