500 BUSINESSWOMEN FROM WORLDWIDE TO GATHER FOR A BUSINESS CONVENTION

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Some 500 leading women entrepreneurs from several countries have confirmed attendance at the inaugural International Women in Business Convention at the southern state of Melaka's Melaka International Trade Centre this month.

Businesswomen from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Nepal, South, Africa, Singapore, the Philippines and the United States are to attend the three-day convention beginning Oct 25.

Eighteen countries from the Malay and Islamic World are also expected to send their delegates to the convention expected to be opened by the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor.

Malaysian Bumiputera Women Entrepreneurs' Association (USAHANITA) president Faridah A. Jabbar said the convention was the result of a memorandum of understanding signed between the association and Himpunan Pengusaha Pribumi Indonesia (HIPPI), a non-governmental organisation, in Bandung on Jan 28.

The convention divided into two segments -- conference and trade exhibition -- aims to group women entrepreneurs worldwide to establish a collaborative network and exchange views on the best business practices to improve their businesses," she told a media conference on Tuesday.

Faridah said the trade exhibition is seen as a platform for businesswomen, particularly from Malaysia, to exhibit and promote their products and services.

She said resolutions adopted at the convention would be translated into action plans which would pave the way for women entrepreneurs' capacity building and to venture into business.

Indonesia will host the biennial conference in 2013.
