INDIAN NATIONAL SENT TO THE GALLOWS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The High Court here Friday
sentenced an Indian national to death for trafficking in 710gm of ketamine at
the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang in August last year.

Justice Noor Azian Shaari handed down the sentence on Abu Baker Siddiq Abdul
Kader, 29, after finding him guilty of the charge under Section 39B (1) (a) of
the Dangerous Drug Act.

In her judgment, she said the testimony by the accused in his defence was
unreasonable, illogical and ridiculous.

The testimony by the accused that he had no knowledge whether the plastic
packets, which were found on him when he was arrested, contained drug or poison
was a denial, she added.

Abu Baker Siddiq was also sentenced to a year's jail on each count after he
was found guilty of two charges under Section 9 (1) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Noor Azian ordered Abu Baker Siddiq to serve the sentence concurrently from
the date of arrest on Aug 6 last year.

Abu Baker was charged with having in his possession 2.1kg of Methylephedrine
and 1.5 kg Ephedrine at KLIA on Aug 6, 2010.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Zuraida Wan Nawan prosecuted, while Abu Baker
Siddiq was represented by lawyer P.Visnuvarman.
