Malaysian Artists To Exhibit Works In London

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The works of five renowned Malaysian artists, including young Malaysian artist Mastura Abdul Rahman, have been selected to represent Malaysia in the 2012 Olympic Fine Arts in London. Apart from Mastura, the rest are Prof Awang Damit Ahmad, Dr Cheah Thien Soong, Dr Cheng Haw Chien and Syed Thajudeen Shaik Abu Talib. They each presented their art works to Information Communication and Culture Deputy Minister Maglin D'Cruz at the National Visual Art Gallery here Wednesday. Their works will be displayed at the one-week exhibition which will be held in conjunctuion with the Olympic Games in London next year. The art exhibition, which kicked off on Aug 1, is themed 'Building a Better and More Peaceful World'. It is aimed at promoting the unique cultural and diversified races of the world. Meanwhile, Malaysia and China Culture and Arts Association secretary-general Chew Mei Fun said the works of Malaysian artists would be exhibited at The Olympic Culture and Art Centre in Bejing, China after the art shows in London. Mastura is a fine arts graduate from Universiti Teknologi Mara and has won several awards locally and internationally. Also present at the gallery was Malaysia & China Culture and Arts Association president Tan Kai Hee, Vice-Secretary General of the Olympic Fine Arts 2012 (London) Yang Tao, Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia Chen DeHai and Director-General of National Visual and Arts Gallery Mohd Yusuf Ahmad. -- BERNAMA
