Malaysian Companies To Also Get Thailand's Post-Flood Incentives
NUSA DUA (BALI), Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The post-flood incentives to be
introduced by Thailand to restore its business sector will also be enjoyed by
Malaysian companies affected by the flood that hit the neighbouring country.
International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed
said the Malaysia-Thai Chamber of Commerce had invited the Thailand Investment
Board to brief the affected Malaysian companies on the incentives offered.
The meeting will be held in Bangkok this Friday.
"In Bangkok, MITI officers have investigated the losses incurred by the
affected Malaysian companies.
"There are about 400 Malaysian companies operating in Thailand and we have
gathered the information related to the matter," he said at a news conference
with Malaysian journalists on the sidelines of the Asean Economic Ministers
(AEM) Meeting at the Nusa Dua Convention Centre, Bali, Wednesday.
Mustapa who did not elaborate on the losses incurred by the Malaysian
companies due to the flood, thanked Thailand for introducing the incentives for
all companies affected by the disaster.
He said Malaysian companies operating in Thailand were mainly involved in
four sectors, namely banking, automotive, food and beverage, and electronics.
Mustapa said the AEM meeting Wednesday chaired by Indonesia's Trade Minister
Gita Wirjawan, did not specifically discuss the massive flood in Thailand and
Cambodia.
However, he said, the Asean ministers conveyed their sympathy over the flood
and suffering of the people of both countries due to the disaster.
