Richard Dalton: Iran Seeks Nuclear Capabilities, Not Nuclear Arsenals

Tehran, Nov 27, IRNA - Richard Dalton, ex-UK ambassador to Iran between 2003 and 2006, has said that Iran seeks nuclear capabilities but not nuclear arsenal and the policies of the group 5+1 on the country is totally wrong, it was announced on Saturday.
He recently made the remark in a meeting hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London (IISS) where the former UK ambassador delivered speeches to the participants.
Iran believes it is gaining strength as the West is on the decline, he said, adding he wasn't sure that any further sanctions on Tehran by the West would 'lead to any positive development,' he said.
“We are in a very dangerous situation with intransigence on both sides,' he said.
'I believe that there will be grounds to reach a conclusion to meet both sides' demands, Iran is gaining more power but the US is becoming weaker than before,' he said.
Policies adopted by the group 5+1 regarding Iran are totally wrong and unrealistic, he said, adding that these six countries fully know that toughening more pressure and sanctions on Iran leave no impacts on Iran’s nuclear program.
He expressed the hope that the group 5+1 would stop exerting more pressure on Iran and instead try to set a suitable ladder for both sides to go up.
The policies of the group 5+1 are not in line with the policies adopted by Britain, he said./end
