Berlin Rally Voices Solidarity With Tahrir Square Protesters

Berlin, Nov 27, IRNA -- A group of people here Saturday gathered at the German foreign ministry to express solidarity with Cairo's Tahrir Square protesters. Draped in Egyptian flags and holding pictures of Tahrir Square martyrs, the protesters demanded the immediate departure of Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (Scaf). They called for an end to the violence as well as the restoration of freedom in Egypt. The demonstrators also urged German Chancellor Angela Merkel 'to support the Egyptian people and not the military.' Germany was a close ally of the Mubarak regime for its ardent support of the Zionist regime. Tantawi, who served as Mubarak's defense minister for two decades, has been under pressure by the ongoing protests on Tahrir Square to accelerate the transition to civilian rule./end
