UAE Minister highlights UAE's role in education

Abu Dhabi, Sept 28, 2008 (WAM) - Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Education, has reiterated the efforts of the UAE to support education and create an international education system that meets global standards. Dr Hassan was speaking at a symposium in the US according to a report in ‘Gulf News.’

He highlighted the 21st Century Teacher Project, announced earlier by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that offers training facilities for 10,000 teachers and has been granted Dh200 million.

Dr Hassan said: "The number of women who have completed high school education has exceeded that of men. Women have become an important source of talent, skill and economic resources in the UAE."

He noted that the UAE has attracted people of many nationalities who work and live here, and at the same time the country has managed to promote tolerance and peaceful living among people of these nationalities.
He referred to the determination of the UAE Government to achieve success in many fields, especially major construction projects and road networks.
He said the Ministry of Education faced huge challenges, but reassured that the education system of the country was being accorded a very high priority by the Government.

Dr Hassan said the current plan concentrated on developing the country's human resources and aimed at implementing various projects that would enable people to learn foreign languages and develop information technology skills.
