UMT Wins With Product That Detects Drug Addicts Using Hair

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) - Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (University of Malaysia, Terengganu - UMT) has emerged champion in the "Inter-Varsity BSN Social Venture Challenge 2011 '(BSN-SVC) via a product that uses hair to detect drug addicts. The group comprising four students led by Mohammad Nizamuddin Japri, 22, presented a business package called 'Cut & Drop " to facilitate screening of drug suspects using hair, instead of urine. Accounting student Nizamuddin told reporters that result of the test would be known in only several minutes. He received premium savings certificate worth RM25,000 (US$7,574) (US$1=RM3.14), IPAD for each member and a trophy from Ministry of Higher Education secretary-general Datuk Rohani Abdullah here Monday. The product also received praise from National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK)Terengganu branch. Second place was won by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and third went to Universiti Tuanku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). BSN-SVC also allows students to highlight their creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship for the benefit of society. BSN received 37 proposals and shortlisted eight groups from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UNIMAS) and Universiti Malaya. - BERNAMA
