Turkmenistan President Arrives For Three-Day Visit To Malaysia

SEPANG (Malaysia), Dec 7 (Bernama) -- Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here Tuesday night to begin his maiden three-day state visit to Malaysia. The president and his delegation comprising vice-premiers and senior government officials were greeted by Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom. In a statement, the foreign ministry said the state visit would provide an opportunity for Malaysia and Turkmenistan to discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern to both countries. This will also further enhance the existing excellent relations between both countries in various areas such as trade, investment, oil and gas, tourism and education. It is the first state visit by the president, upon resuming office on Feb 14, 2007. In conjunction with the visit, Berdimuhamedov will have a royal audience with King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin. A delegation meeting is also scheduled to be held to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues. The president is also scheduled to visit the Petronas Twin Towers and will be conferred an honorary doctorate by the University Technology Petronas. -- BERNAMA
