Malaysians Urged To Support Paralympians

From Ahmad Muliady Abdul Majid SOLO (Indonesia), Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The Paralympic Council of Malaysia has called on Malaysians to give their full support to the country's paralympians and to follow the development at the ongoing Asean Para Games, here. Its patron Jeanne Abdullah said these paralympians are national athletes who have worked hard to do the nation proud at the international sporting arena. "It's not fair to only recognise 'normal' athletes and hail them as the country's heroes but not according the same recognition to the differently-abled athletes despite their achievements. "They are also our national athletes and should be regarded by the society as sports icons because of their sacrifices and courage," she told Bernama, here. Jeanne hoped that the Malaysian society and the media would be more sensitive to the development and achievements of these athletes, saying that their show of courage, determination and grit to fight for the country's honour can be a source of inspiration for all Malaysians. She said the recognition given to the differently-abled people was among the benchmarks to gauge the value systems of a developed society. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
