Sports Tourism At Tasik Kenyir To Promote Lake

HULU TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia), Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The Kenyir Motocross Monsoon Challenge 2011 organised by the Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) at Tasik Kenyir is aimed at promoting the lake to domestic and foreign tourists. Ketengah general manager Wan Mat Amin Wan Daud said the event was also to enhance and diversify sports tourism activities at the country's largest man-made lake. "The event is the fifth in the series held here but the first time to be known as the Kenyir Motocross Monsoon Challenge which took place in a condition of rain throughout the two-day affair. "We received encouraging response from motocross fans with the participation of competitors from Germany and Thailand apart from Malaysia," he told Bernama after the event on Sunday. The event consisted of nine categories involving 170 participants and offering a total prize money of RM40,000, trophies and other prizes. Wan Mat Amin said the motocross challenge was the last of 12 events organised by Ketengah at the lake for this year. He said that next year, more events would be held including the motocross challenge, international triathlon, Kenyir Cup fishing competition, and ayam serama costest. "We also plan to hold a Kenyir Mini Fest next year to attract more tourists to the lake," he added. In the motocross challenge, Daniel Sediak from Germany emerged champion in the Expert category, winning him RM3,000 and other prizes. (US41=RM3.17) -- BERNAMA Malaysia
