Sports Tourism At Tasik Kenyir To Promote Lake
HULU TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia), Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The Kenyir
Motocross Monsoon Challenge 2011 organised by the Central Terengganu Development
Authority (Ketengah) at Tasik Kenyir is aimed at promoting the lake to domestic
and foreign tourists.
Ketengah general manager Wan Mat Amin Wan Daud said the event was also to
enhance and diversify sports tourism activities at the country's largest
man-made lake.
"The event is the fifth in the series held here but the first time to be
known as the Kenyir Motocross Monsoon Challenge which took place in a condition
of rain throughout the two-day affair.
"We received encouraging response from motocross fans with the participation
of competitors from Germany and Thailand apart from Malaysia," he told Bernama
after the event on Sunday.
The event consisted of nine categories involving 170 participants and
offering a total prize money of RM40,000, trophies and other prizes.
Wan Mat Amin said the motocross challenge was the last of 12 events
organised by Ketengah at the lake for this year.
He said that next year, more events would be held including the motocross
challenge, international triathlon, Kenyir Cup fishing competition, and ayam
serama costest.
"We also plan to hold a Kenyir Mini Fest next year to attract more tourists
to the lake," he added.
In the motocross challenge, Daniel Sediak from Germany emerged champion in
the Expert category, winning him RM3,000 and other prizes. (US41=RM3.17)
