From Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, Dec 22 (Bernama) -- Three Malaysians, including a daughter of a tobacco and vegetable farmer from Bachok, Kelantan (an east coast state in Peninsular Malaysia), were named among 14 top medical graduates at Universiti Kristen Krida Wacana (Ukrida) Wednesday. They were accorded the "cum laude" (a high level of academic distinction) for achieving the Grade Average Cumulative Value (CGPA) of 3.51 and above at the oath taking ceremony of would be doctors by Ukrida here. Rosaida Sidek, 24, scored CGPA of 3.60 while two other Malaysian medical students, Zaitul Akma Baharudin, 25, from Subang Jaya, Selangor (3.58) and Nurshaheda Mohd Salleh, 24, from Johor Baharu, Johor (a southern state in Peninsular Malaysia) (3.51). "I was taken by surprise when informed of my achievement Tuesday. Thank God for I will be able to share this happiness with my parents who really wanted me to become a doctor. "God willing, after housemanship in Malaysia, I intend to pursue a postgraduate in paediatrician," said Rosaida, a Kuala Terengganu Mara Junior Science College alumni, when met after the oath taking ceremony. Rosaida's parents, Sidek Hamzah, 65, and Ramlah Daud, 64, who were overwhelmed with the results said although their daughter's medical course was finance by Mara, they had sent her money to supplement the scholarship as well as to pay for her air fares to return home during festivals. For Zaitul Akma, who got married this year, she also planned to pursue a postgraduate medical degree in a suitable field after getting a second opinion from family members. A daughter of an flight engineer, Zaitul Akma said her younger sister was undergoing training to become a pilot. A total of 87 medical graduates took their oath before Ukrida dean of medical faculty Dr Mardi Santoso. This is the second accolade achieved by Malaysian students in Ukrida after two students, who were sponsored by the Public Service Department and Mara respectively, awarded the cum laude several months ago. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
