Philippines Offers Malaysian Firms Access To Infrastructure Sector

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 (Bernama) -- The Philippines government's offering of 33 infrastructure projects for public-private partnerships (PPP) worth RM22.93 billion will offer Malaysian construction supplies manufacturers and professional services providers with access to the country's rapidly developing infrastructure sector. In a statement Thursday, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said documents from the Philippines' National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) showed that projects under the country's Department of Transportation and Communications would require RM6.38 billion while those under the Public Works and Highways and Agriculture departments would need RM13.74 billion and RM2.85 billion respectively.(US$1=RM3.16) The top priority PPP projects include the RM5.11 billion Metro Rail Transit (MRT)/Light Rail Transit expansion project, the RM1.53 billion North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway Link, the RM830 million MRT Line 2 Extension and the RM550 million New Bohol Airport. "Malaysian companies in the infrastructure sector would have to quickly evaluate their plans and strategies in order to compete with the Philippines' lucrative infrastructure sector which is currently undergoing major redevelopment," MATRADE said. -- BERNAMA
