Interior Min. Stresses Optimum Participation In Parliamentary Polls

Tehran, Dec 24, IRNA – Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar stressed optimum public participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections and full rule of law governing the election procedures. The minister made the remarks here Saturday morning in a video-conference speech in which he announced the beginning of the registration procedures of the candidates for the 9th parliamentary elections in the country following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. He said the government’s plans for smooth running of the elections are based on such principles as the maximum participation of people, safeguarding votes, justice and rule of law. He said till Friday, December 30, when the registration ends, candidates will have the opportunity to register to run for 207 main constituencies. According to the minister, 850,000 people will be in charge of the registration procedures./end
