Turkey expresses sorrow over destruction of some Muslim tombs in France
ANKARA (A.A) - Turkey expressed sorrow over destruction of epitaphs on some Muslim tombs in France.
French officials should be sensitive towards this issue and conduct a serious investigation, said Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement released on Friday.
We have learned with sorrow that epitaphs of some of the Muslim tombs --including the graves of Turkish martyrs from World War I-- were destroyed by writing racist slogans on them on December 26, 2011 in St. Michel cemetery in Carcassonne city of France, said the Ministry.
Noting that citizens, who were laid to rest in other countries' lands, were relics for those countries, the Ministry recalled that perpetrators of similar assaults, which happened in September too, had not been found yet.
The ministry asked French officials to conduct a serious investigation about this issue.
