Turkish minister says concluding process regarding retired general's arrest for Turkey's best interests

TRABZON (A.A) - Turkey's national defense minister said on Saturday that concluding the process regarding with arrest of former chief of general staff as soon as possible would be for the best interests of Turkey. Ismet Yilmaz said Turkey was a state of law, and it would be for the best interests of Turkey to conclude the process regarding arrest of Ilker Basbug as soon as possible. "It will be for Turkey's best interests to conclude the process in the possible shortest time," Yilmaz told reporters in the northeastern province of Trabzon. Istanbul court on duty arrested retired general Ilker Basbug and sent him to Silivri Prison in Istanbul on charges of leading an organization and attempting to abolish the Republic of Turkey by using force. Basbug was appointed as the Chief of General Staff in 2008.  Ilker Basbug retired on August 20, 2010.
