Foreign Tourist Arrivals Dependent On Global Developments - Tourism Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Ministry said Tuesday foreign tourist arrivals in Malaysia this year will depend on, among others, global economic performance and developments. Nevertheless, the ministry will continue with the promotion of tourism products to strengthen the sector, including domestic tourism which is regarded as vital, said the ministry's corporate communications head Mona Fairuz Nordin. "The promotion covers the Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia Taxi Advertising Campaign launched by Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen in Raub, Pahang, Monday," she said. Pahang is an East Coast state in Peninsular Malaysia. Forty-one taxis, bearing the tourism promotion advertisements, participated in the campaign in the district. The taxi drivers had attended the "Mesra Malaysia" course organised by the ministry and the Pahang tourism office early last year. Mona Fairuz said Malaysia had many unique destinations which can draw tourists, such as Raub which is rich in attractive natural resources such as the Lata Jarum recreational forest and Fraser's Hill, besides homestay programmes. The ministry regards public transportation such as taxis as the best alternative to provide the public with wide exposure to tourism products and destinations in Malaysia, she said. -- BERNAMA
