Malaysian Retail Investors Need More Exposure To Asean Market, Says Maybank Investment

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Local retail investors should be more exposed to the Asean market, says Maybank Investment Banking Chief Executive Officer, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz. "Right now, most of the opportunities are taken up by institutional fund managers and high network businesses," he told reporters after the inaugural 2012 Retail Strategies conference series, "Invest Asian", here, Saturday. The half-day conference was organised by Maybank Investment and Maybank Kim Eng. Zafrul said the objective of the conference is to teach local retail investors on how to invest in the Asean Market. "We need to have the right tools. With this conference, we are trying to educate the Malaysian public on the possibilities of investing in Asia, because we look at the Asian market as one," he added. He said that the other important tool is to utilise the latest technology as assist with investments, adding, people today are using the I-Pad, I-Phone and the Blackberry among others, to serve this purpose. Meanwhile, Zafrul said Maybank investment will be launching its mobile Global Online Training platform soon, and it can be downloaded for free by customers from its website. "Currently, the platform is only available for computers, with customers having to log on to the internet and so forth. But we don't have a specific application that you can click on to upload onto your phone," he added. He said that Maybank Investment is in the midst of securing the approval of the I-Phone, Blackberry and other smartphone company providers, for the implementation of this platform. "The platform is already there. Hopefully, in February, we can launch it," Zafrul said, adding, it will also be the first global online training platform on mobile. -- BERNAMA Malaysia retail investors
