Higher Reading Interest Expected Among Malaysians

KANGAR (Malaysia), Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The reading interest among Malaysians can be further enhanced if reading is made a culture, National Library deputy director-general, Siti Rodziah Othman, said Sunday. She said that based on statistics, Malaysians read an average of eight books a year in 2010, from an average of two books in 1996. The National Library would continue with efforts to inculcate the reading habit among Malaysians, she said when closing a human development programme at Tasoh Lake Resort & Retreat, Beseri near here Sunday. Siti Rodziah said among factors that could encourage people to read were by having more libraries and publication of quality books. Reading can help inculcate noble values among the people, as well as mould a knowledgeable and civilised society, she added. -- BERNAMA
