Senate President Receives Courtesy Calls From Syrian Ambassador And Singapore High Commissioner

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Senate president Abu Zahar Ujang (right) Monday received courtesy calls from Syrian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Mohamad Khafif (left), and Singapore High Commissioner Ong Keng Yong.
At the meeting with the foreign representatives, held separately at his office at Parliament building, Abu Zahar talked about the latest development on Malaysia's bilateral relations with the two countries.
The discussion between Abu Zahar and Dr Mohamad also touched on the current situation in Syria.
"Malaysia adopts a system where we do not want to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, but we still follow the development in Syria and pray for the people there," Abu Zahar told reporters later.
He said the Syrian Ambassador also requested for the Malaysian media to obtain accurate information on his country before making their reports.
On his meeting with Ong, Abu Zahar said they emphasised the need for relations between Malaysia and Singapore to be enhanced.
"Singapore is our nearest neighbour. We need to have close relations with the neighbours because if anything happens, they are the closest to us," he added. (photoBERNAMA)
