Coca-Cola Reiterates Product Safety Despite Concerns Over Orange Juice From Brazil

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Coca-Cola company has reiterated that its products are safe and made from ingredients approved for use by local regulatory authorities throughout the world, including Malaysia. The company said this in a statement Monday, following concerns in the United States over the orange juice imported from Brazil. According to the statement, the situation in the US is related to a fungicide that growers used throughout Brazil to combat a disease affecting their fruit. The fungicide is permitted for use in most countries, including in Malaysia and Singapore, but is not registered for use in the US. The statement also said this is an issue that impacts every company that produces products in the US using Brazilian orange juice. The situation in the United States is also unique to that country as its laws and regulations regarding certain pesticides differ from those in other countries. Coca-cola Malaysia Public Affairs and Communications Director Kadri Taib stressed that there is no safety issue with the orange juice used in the company's products, even in the United States. -- BERNAMA
