People's Well-Being Central To Najib's Transformation Agenda

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Jan 28 (Bernama) -- People's well-being is central to the transformation initiatives mooted by Prime Minister Najib Razak, Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Fadillah Yusof said. All these initiatives would result in a better economic status for the people as the country marches to become a developed country in 2020, he said. "Ever since taking the helm of the government's administration, the prime minister has been implementing numerous initiatives for the people including the introduction of the 1Malaysia Clinic, 1Malaysia People's Shop, RM100 assistance to school students, RM200 book vouchers for university students and the RM500 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M)... all these are for the people," he said. (US$1=RM3.04) He was speaking at the distribution of BR1M for the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency, here on Saturday. He said the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government understands the needs of the people, and had come up with numerous programmes, especially for those in the low income group. To ensure the continuity of these initiatives, the government would need the support of the people, he said. He said a total of 11,000 applications for BR1M in Petra Jaya had been approved, with 3,000 recipients getting the aid during the first phase of its distribution. One of the recipients, Malaysia Yap, 48, said she was thankful for the aid as it helps meet some of the expenditure for the children's schooling. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
