From Adnan Jahaya CHRISTCHURCH, Jan 30 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) which has set the target of making it to the list of world's 500 best universities began a tour of New Zealand here, Monday, to promote the university at the international arena. The five-day tour is led by the Crown Prince of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is UniMAP chancellor, and accompanied by his wife Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, the university's pro-chancellor. Others in the delegation are UniMAP vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin, UniMAP Puspanita chairperson Datin Noridah Yangman and 29 members of UniMAP's Students' Representative Council. A packed itinerary awaits members of the tour, dubbed "Knowledge Tour", which includes a visit to the University of Canterbury here and Otago University in Dunedin, about 310km from here. Dr Kamarudin said the programme would also allow the student leaders to interact with their counterparts overseas and promote the 10-year-old UniMAP to students in the country. UniMAP, which has carved a niche in the international arena for its research and innovation capabilities, is now a choice institution for hundreds of international students. Other programmes during the tour are a promotion of Perlis cuisine in Christchurch and Dunedin and a visit around Cook mountain, the highest peak in New Zealand. UniMAP embarked on a similar tour in Australia two years ago. -- BERNAMA Malaysia university
