Singapore Airshow 2012 Set To Soar

By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah SINGAPORE, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The Singapore Airshow 2012, Asia’s largest and one of the three most important aerospace and defence exhibitions in the world, will make a spectacular return next week. The six-day event, beginning Feb 14, will be held at the Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore. With new and innovative showcases, high-level conferences, business forums and breathtaking aerial and static displays, the show looks set to be bigger than ever. Now in its third edition, the Singapore Airshow continues to scale new heights with more than 900 exhibitors from 50 countries, and 266 delegations from 80 countries coming together to strike new deals, make key announcements and share industry insights at this landmark event. Jimmy Lau, managing director of Experia Events, organiser of the Singapore Airshow, told a press conference on Sunday that response to this year’s show was "very positive". Singapore Economic Development Board executive director (transport engineering) Lim Kok Kiang described the airshow as the premier aviation event in Asia. One of the aerial displays will involve the Royal Malaysian Air Force MiG-29N aerial display team, 'Smokey Bandits', making its Singapore debut. Other 'firsts' at this year’s show include Australian pilot Tony Blair of Blair Aerosports flying the Rebel 300 single propeller aircraft in the first stunt aerobatic performance in the history of airshows in Singapore. Also set to thrill audiences will be the 'Roulettes' from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). -- BERNAMA
