M'sia's Special Envoy To Lead 5-Member Delegation To Pakistan

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Special Envoy (Infrastructure) to India and South Asia, Samy Vellu, will lead a five-member Malaysian delegation to Pakistan on a three-day visit beginning tomorrow, to explore business and investment opportunities. In a statement Tuesday, the Pakistan High Commission here said the delegation was expected to meet senior government officials and ministers of communications; water and power; petroleum & natural resources; railways; and, ports and shipping. "A separate meeting has also been scheduled with the chairman of Pakistan Board of Investment. "The delegation will also get a first-hand update on various infrastructure projects and initiatives currently under way and explore the possibility of forging joint ventures with Pakistani companies," it said. The high commission said the visit was taking place against a backdrop of a burgeoning bilateral trade which crossed US$2.5 billion (RM7.62 billion) mark last year, reflecting an upward trajectory in commercial cooperation following the signing and implementation of the free trade agreement between the two countries in 2008. "Pakistan's exports to Malaysia rose considerably in recent months, registering an impressive 56.16 per cent increase, according to latest trade figures available as of November 2011," it said. -- BERNAMA
