Malaysian Police Detain Third Iranian Linked To Bangkok's Bomb Blast
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- Police on Wednesday has detained an
Iranian believed to be linked to a series of bombings in Bangkok, said
Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar.
He said the Iranian man was arrested under the Immigration Act of Malaysia
at 3.30pm Wednesday "following intelligence provided by our Thai counterpart".
"He is being investigated for terrorism activities in relation to bombings
in Thailand," he said in a short statement issued, here.
Earlier, federal police have been on high alert for an Iranian linked to a
failed attack in Bangkok to assassinate Israeli diplomats, and is believed to
have slipped into Malaysia.
Malaysian police, in collaboration with Interpol, were monitoring the case
since a series of explosions occurred in Bangkok yesterday.
According to international news agencies, Thai authorities have detained the
Iranian's two accomplices in connection with the explosions.
One of the men, identified as Saeid Morati, 28, according to a passport
found in his possession, lost his legs when he tried to hurl an explosive device
at a Thai police car while fleeing from an earlier blast at a house in Bangkok.
The other was detained as he tried to board a flight out of Thailand.
A third suspect is believed to have fled to Malaysia.
