Sale Of Solar Energy And Biogas In Pajam To TNB Begins On March 28

NILAI (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia), Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The first phase of the renewal energy project at the Integrated Renewable Energy Park in Pajam near here, was completed in December last year, and has begun production of eight megawatts of solar power and one megawatt biogas. Phase two of the project is expected to be completed on Nov 31 and will produce five megawatts of solar energy and one megawatt biogas. State Chief Minister Mohamad Hasan said the solar energy and biogas produced in the first phase will be sold to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Malaysia's national power provider, from March 28. TNB will distribute it to areas within Nilai and Pajam while the sale of solar energy and biogas from the phase two to TNB begins from Jan 8, 2013. "The implementation of this project is a very good thing in respect of the government's efforts towards increasing the production of energy based on solar and biogas," he added. He was speaking to reporters after a working visit to the site to review progress on the project on Monday. The Integrated Renewable Energy Park is listed under the government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The project, undertaken by Cypark Resources Berhad (CRB), is the first to generate two types of renewable energy in solar energy and biogas at the 32.5 hectare waste disposal site in Pajam. The project will be a key contributor towards efforts to reduce carbon emission by 40 per cent in 2020. Mohamad said other than Pajam, two other areas have been identified to develop a similar project, namely, at the waste disposal sites in Bukit Palong, Port Dickson (14.22 hectares) and at Kuala Sawah, Rantau (11.38 hectares). He said the Bukit Palong and Kuala Sawah projects are capable of producing renewable energy of five megawatts solar power and one megawatt biogas. "Site works at Bukit Palong and Kuala Sawah will begin early next month and is slated to be completed by June. "When all waste disposal sites under the local authorities in Seremban, Nilai, Port Dickson and Rembau are closed, a new area at Bukit Nanas, Port Dickson, will be opened. "The 81.25 hectare waste disposal site( close to Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd) is scheduled for opening in July. "The Bukit Nanas waste disposal site, to also be managed by CRB, will be an area for the production of renewable energy," he added. Mohamad said when all the projects are fully implemented, Negeri Sembilan will be the first state and the largest producer of renewable energy in the country. "What is important is that we can together assist the nation in reducing carbon emission and at the same time, draw success from the green technology policy launched last year," he added. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
