Malaysia Can Offer Huge Benefits To The Arab World's Healthcare Industry

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- A collaboration in healthcare sector with Malaysia can bring tremendous benefits to the Arab countries, considering the latter is now looking to emulate Malaysia’s healthcare management system. During a visit to Tawakkal Hospital with Kumpulan Perubatan Johor Bhd (KPJ) here on Wednesday, the Arab league, headed by Mohammed Al-Rabea, Secretary General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, highlighted and discussed the potential areas that they can benefit from Malaysia's expertise in the healthcare sector. “We are here to learn about the Malaysian medical and management system in the healthcare sector which can be exported back to the Arab world. “KPJ is Malaysia’s leading private healthcare provider and we believe with its level of experience, it can lend us the expertise in running the healthcare system in our country,” he told reporters after the visit to the hospital. However, he said before any concrete agreement can be concluded, market research needs to be carried out to determine the potential areas that KPJ can tap into the Arab world. For example, in Yemen alone, the locals spend more than US$1.5 billion in healthcare services from other countries, Mohammed Al-Rabea said. “This is just one country from the Arab world...If we combined all the countries, then there is a multi-billion dollar opportunities that KPJ can capitalise on,” he said. Nevertheless, he is confident that KPJ is in a very good position and has the capacity to lift the healthcare sector in the Arab countries to a higher level, thus reducing the annual leakage from the sector. “I do believe that they have the ability to take the sector to a different level because they are now a sophisticated organisation with well-planned expansion strategies and specialties,” he added. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
